The faces of the NBA world shed another tear on Saturday, as former NBA player Clifford Robinson passed away at the age of 53.

Robinson, the 36th overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, spent eight seasons in Portland from ‘89-‘97, before four seasons in Phoenix, two in Detroit, one and a half with the Warriors, and the last 159 games of his career in New Jersey with the Nets, playing until age 40.

The 6’10 versatile forward, who played from the small forward position to center during his career, was the Sixth Man of the Year for the 1992-93 season, when he averaged 19.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in 31 minutes per game on 47% shooting. He was an all-star the following year, averaging 20.1 points and 6.7 rebounds. He also was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team in 2000 and 2002. For his career, the Buffalo, NY native - a dedicated member of the NBA‘s headband family - averaged 14.2 points.

Throughout his career, Robinson provided a mold for the future stretch big man, a versatile forward who could play and guard multiple positions and play either outside or inside. A four-year player at the University of Connecticut, Robinson averaged 20 points and 7.4 rebounds in his senior season, and was a 2-time All Big East team member.

Robinson is added to a tragically long list of NBA and basketball figures and legends to pass away this year, in what has been a tough year in general. Rest In Peace Uncle Cliffy.
