Big 3 Announces Cancellation of 2020 Season

Amid the uncertainty involving the Coronavirus pandemic, the Big 3 has decided to cancel its 2020 season, the league announced Monday through its website.

In March, the league had broached the idea of a quarantined, contained season in Los Angeles, a Big Brother-type format where players would be tested for the virus and live under one roof. However, the league has decided to nix plans for this year and prepare for a 2021 return.

The league had a big acquisition going into this season in two-time NBA All-Star Zach Randolph, and it saw Stephen Jackson retire to coach Trilogy, the team that Randolph would have suited up for. NBA veteran Marreese Speights had also signed on to join Bivouac as co-captain, coached by Reggie Theus.

The Big 3 was officially announced in January of 2017, the brainchild of music legend Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz. Trilogy went undefeated in the inaugural season, led by Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington and coached by Rick Mahorn. In 2018, Power defeated 3s Company for the championship, and last year Triplets defeated the Killer 3s.

With Randolph in the fold now, and star power already present in the league with Gilbert Arenas and Joe Johnson, the league should flourish upon its return next season. While unfortunate that it won't have a season this year, it is for the best as uncertainty around the pandemic continues.
