Chris Paul is headed back to Los Angeles for his final NBA season.
The 40-year-old point guard, whose final season will be the 2025-26 campaign, is returning to the Clippers, according to Hoopshype, and ESPN’s Shams Charania. Per Chris B. Haynes, the deal is worth $3.6 million.
Last season, Paul averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists on 42.7% shooting with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 28.0 minutes per game and playing in all 82 games for the first time in his career.
From 2011 to 2017, Paul was a Clipper, and was named to five all-star games with the team. He averaged 18.8 points, 9.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 steals in 409 games in his first go-around in LA. He led the league in steals three times and in assists twice with the Clippers.
Since leaving Los Angeles, Paul spent two seasons with the Houston Rockets, one with the Oklahoma City Thunder, three with the Phoenix Suns, one with the Golden State Warriors, and last season with the Spurs. He served as a veteran mentor to young players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dennis Schroder in Oklahoma City and to Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle in San Antonio.
With the current group of Clippers, Paul fits right in off the bench as another veteran added to the team. The Clippers reached an agreement last week with Bradley Beal, and earlier in the off-season traded guard Norman Powell for John Collins. They now have a second unit that includes Paul, Kris Dunn, Derrick Jones Jr. and Brook Lopez, making them one of the deepest teams in the NBA.
