Jimmy Butler has gotten his wish out of Miami.
The forward is switching coasts, going from the Miami Heat to the Golden State Warriors in a Wednesday night deal that yields the Heat Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson from the Warriors, P.J. Tucker (from the Utah Jazz) and a protected first round pick. Dennis Schroder is headed to the Utah Jazz, and P.J. Tucker is headed back to Miami, where he spent the 2021-22 season. Warrior guard Lindy Waters II and Heat guard Josh Richardson are headed to the Pistons.
Butler, who will be 36 in September, is a 6-time all-star who made All-NBA 2nd team in 2023, and 3rd team in 2020 and 2021. He last was an all-star in 2022. This season, he was suspended on two separate occasions, averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 54 percent shooting in 25 games. Also according to Charania, Butler has agreed to a 2-year, $121 million contract with the Warriors.
Butler gives the Warriors a clutch performer alongside Stephen Curry and shooter Buddy Hield. He will help their perimeter defense tremendously and has the pressure of leading a franchise taken off of him.
Wiggins gives the Heat a rangy defensive-minded forward who can also score. Schroder is a solid playmaking veteran guard, and Anderson is a crafty forward who can pass and stretch the floor. They will surely be buyout candidates as the Jazz and Raptors are near the bottom of the standings.
This deal might quell any Kevin Durant trade speculation, as rumors earlier in the day had Durant possibly going to the Heat after saying that he would not want to go back to the Golden State Warriors.
