LeBron and Bronny shared the court together on Monday night in at Crypto Arena, while the Los Angeles Lakers took care of the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves by a 110-103 score.
Anthony Davis was dominant, finishing with 36 points and 16 rebounds. Davis made 11-of-23 shots in 38 minutes and also finished with three rejections. He was a factor inside and outside and was the catalyst for a Laker team that held the Timberwolves to just 41 percent shooting. Rui Hachimura played aggressively and finished with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including two highlight dunks. James scored 16 points and had 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 35 minutes on 7-of-16 shooting. Austin Reaves added 12 and Jaxson Hayes contributed 10 points off the bench.
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 27 points, but rushed his shot at times and was an inefficient 10-of-25 from the field. Julius Randle put up 16 points and 9 rebounds in his Minnesota debut, and he looked more comfortable as the game went on. Rudy Gobert had 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Minnesota bench had a down game, with Naz Reid going 3-of-8 and Donte DiVincenzo hitting just three out of 11 shots. Nickeil Alexander-Walker played well with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
The story of the game of course was LeBron and son Bronny taking the floor together for three minutes late in the second quarter, which was an undeniably cool moment. The pair became the first father and son duo in NBA history to share the floor together, and the first across all sports to do it since Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr. did it in 1989 with the Seattle Mariners. NHL legend Gordie Howe did play professionally with his two sons Marty and Mark in the WHA in 1973 with the Houston Aeros.
The younger James only played three minutes, and missed a wing three-point attempt on a drive and kick from his father. Listed at 6 feet, 2 inches and 210 pounds, he looked even smaller than that out there on the floor. The good thing is though that you know the basketball intelligence is there, and he has the perfect role model to learn the game from.
The Lakers played with a lot more energy than the Timberwolves, which was apparent from the beginning. Like the New York Knicks, who got blasted 132-109 in Boston on Tuesday night, the Timberwolves have new faces and it will be a bit of an adjustment period for both New York and Minnesota. 19-year-old rookie guard Rob Dillingham was a DNP-Coach’s Decision for Minnesota.
