In an eight game slate on Wednesday, the New York Knicks won their fourth-consecutive game with a big time road performance, Giannis Antetokounmpo had a 40-point night to lead his Bucks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers dominated the New Orleans Pelicans at home to get to 16-1.
The Knicks (9-6) on the road in Phoenix poured in 44 first quarter points and got 36 points and 10 assists from Jalen Brunson (12-for-21, 7-for-11 from downtown) and 34 points and 10 rebounds on 12-for-19 shooting from Karl-Anthony Towns to defeat a shorthanded Suns team 138-122. Josh Hart added 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists on 8-for-11 shooting. The Knicks shot 58 percent from the field and made 19 of 39 triples. Devin Booker led the Suns with 33 points on 12-for-23. Phoenix (9-7) has lost four in a row and six of their last seven games. They need Kevin Durant back.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 41 points to pace the Bucks by the Chicago Bulls 122-106. Antetokounmpo, who shot 17-for-24 from the field, also had 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Damian Lillard had a double-double with 20 points and 10 assists on 7-for-17 shooting. The Bucks, 6-9, have won four of their last five games.
On the Chicago side, Zach LaVine led with 27 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds on 9-for-15 shooting. The Bulls dropped to 6-10 with the loss.
The Cleveland Cavaliers returned home Wednesday after a tough loss at Boston on Tuesday to comfortably defeat the New Orleans Pelicans 128-100 and get to 16-1.
Ty Jerome scored 29 points (27 in the first half) on 10-for-19 shooting and 7-for-12 from deep, while Jarrett Allen and Jaylon Tyson both had 16-point, 11-rebound double-doubles.
Off the bench for the Pelicans, 24-year-old Antonio Reeves poured in 34 on 14-for-25 in 40 minutes. The Pelicans dropped to 4-12 and were without eight players on the evening in Brandon Ingram, C.J. McCollum, Dejounte Murray, Herb Jones, Jordan Hawkins, Jose Alvarado, Trey Murphy, and Zion Williamson. Injuries have really decimated a team that had high expectations going into the season. We will see if they can get things back in order in the new year or whether they will shift their focus for a top draft pick and look to unload some of their players.
