Lawrence Tanter, 1949-2026

One of the NBA's iconic voices has passed away.

Lawrence Tanter, the longtime public address announcer of the Los Angeles Lakers known for his signature baritone voice, died on September 23 at the age of 76.

A native of Chicago, Ill., Tanter was the in-arena voice of the Lakers from 1982-2006. As the team's public address announcer, Tanter saw 10 NBA titles and 16 conference titles. He was also the announcer for a time on the Lakers' pre and post game shows on Los Angeles television channel KCAL-TV.

Any NBA fan can recite his signature call of 'Ko-beee Bryant'.

RIP to a true voice of the NBA.
