The Los Angeles Lakers got their season off to a 3-0 start Saturday night with a 131-127 win over the visiting Sacramento Kings.
LeBron James (32 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists) was the catalyst in the fourth quarter, which the Lakers went into trailing 94-87. James went on a personal 11-0 run, part of a stretch where the home Lakers took a 101-94 lead. James assisted on a Jaxson Hayes dunk and hit a deep triple that gave his team a 108-94 lead.
The Kings’ DeMar DeRozan (23 points, 9-for-12) hit some clutch shots late down the stretch, and Domantas Sabonis (29 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, 10-for-14) and Malik Monk (14 points off the bench) were clutch late as well - Monk cutting the deficit to two with under a minute to go - but Anthony Davis responded with a big time triple to in effect ice the game.
Davis finished with 31 points and 9 rebounds on 10-for-15 from the field. He has been exceptional thus far on the season, scoring 30-plus in each game and is shooting 57 percent through the first three games.
James, meanwhile, took the game over at the beginning of the fourth quarter after shooting just 14 times through the first 36 minutes of play.
De’Aaron Fox scored 28 points on 9-for-20 shooting and had 10 assists for the Kings. He was a driving force behind his team’s lead.
Rui Hachimura added 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Lakers, and Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell both scored 16 points. Rookie Dalton Knecht scored 10 off the bench.
The Lakers as a whole look very energized to begin the season. James has worked his way into games, and Davis, so far at least, has taken that role of the primary guy. The entire team is confident and is shooting the ball well.

The Los Angeles Clippers dropped the Denver Nuggets to 0-2 with a 109-104 win in Denver. Norman Powell finished with 37 points (26 in the second half) and James Harden put up 23 points and 16 assists. Harden is thriving thus far in his new (old) role. He is finding his teammates for open looks and navigating the court well. Nikola Jokic (14-for-26, career-high seven three-pointers) scored 41 points, while Jamal Murray added 22.
The Miami Heat defeated the Charlotte Hornets 114-106 in Charlotte. Jimmy Butler (26 points) scored 13 in the fourth quarter. Tyler Herro contributed 22 points. LaMelo Ball (27 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) led the Hornets.
Jayson Tatum’s 37 points and Jaylen Brown’s 24 points and 10 rebounds Boston Celtics held off the Detroit Pistons 124-118 on the road. Jaden Ivey’s 26 was tops for the Pistons.
The Cleveland Cavaliers improved to 3-0 behind 30 points from Donovan Mitchell and 23 each from Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen (10-for-10) as they went on the road and beat the Washington Wizards 135-116. Bilal Coulibaly’s 23 points led the home side.
Jalen Williams (24 points), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (23 points) and Chet Holmgren (21 points, 16 rebounds) led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 114-95 over the Chicago Bulls in the Windy City. Zach Lavine scored 22 points for the Bulls.
The Orlando Magic fell in Memphis 124-111 to the Grizzlies. Santi Aldama scored 22 points off the bench for the Grizzlies, while Ja Morant put up 16 and 10 assists but struggled shooting the ball (0-for-6 from three-point range). Franz Wagner, Paulo Banchero, and Jalen Suggs combined for 60 points but collectively shot just 38 percent from the field.
The Minnesota Timberwolves got an 11-point home win 112-101 over the Toronto Raptors. Julius Randle and Anthony Edwards each scored 24 points, while Gradey Dick (4-for-9 from downtown) led the Raptors with 25.
The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Houston Rockets 109-106. Victor Wembanyama scored a team-high 29 points (7 rebounds, 3 blocks), while Jalen Green scored 29 in a losing effort. Jeremy Sochan added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs.
Kevin Durant’s 31 points (10-for-21) led the Phoenix Suns over the Dallas Mavericks 114-102, overcoming Luka Doncic’s 40 points (12-for-25) and 10 rebounds.
