On Friday, the Orlando Magic made sure to keep their young and up and coming core intact. The team reached a deal on a five-year, $224 million maximum rookie extension with Franz Wagner, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal can be worth as much as $269 million if Wagner makes an All-NBA team.
Wagner averaged 19.7 points, 5.3 rebounds. And 3.7 assists on 48 percent shooting in 72 games in 2023-2024.
The Magic enjoyed a fruitful 2023-2024, winning 47 games and getting a top-five seed. They were defeated in seven games in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The team also agreed on a five-year extension with forward Jonathan Isaac. Isaac is a competent defender who played in 58 games this past season after appearing in just 11 in the previous three seasons, including missing all of 2020-2021 and 2021-2022.
With all-star Paolo Banchero leading the charge, 23-year-old Jalen Suggs at point guard and free-agent acquisition Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the fold, things are looking up for the Magic heading into 2024-2025 and beyond.
