As NBC gears up for its new NBA television deal in 2025-26, the network has already added fresh talent to its roster. Among its analysts and studio analysts will be Jamal Crawford, Carmelo Anthony, and Reggie Miller. Now, they have added the greatest to their team.
On Monday, it was announced that Michael Jordan will be added as a special contributor.
One cannot believe that any amount of money - MJ is a billionaire and does not need it - will pry the GOAT away from the beautiful golf courses, serene fishing waters, or exhilarating NASCAR races, all three of which have occupied his time since retirement. His NASCAR venture, 23XI Racing, is co-owned with Denny Hamlin, and has been operating since 2020.
While “special contributor” may end up being nothing more than a consultant and/or investment in the NBA on NBC or NBC Sports, or the occasional piece of MJ’s mind and input, having one of the most identifiable names in sports history and a worldwide icon in your circle is a major coup for the NBA on NBC. The league and network have already announced that John Tesh’s iconic Roundball Rock will return, and that they will use Artificial Intelligence to recreate the voice of the legendary Jim Fagan.
The 11-year agreement between the NBA and NBC was reached in July 2024, an agreement that will bring the NBA back under the NBC umbrella for the first time since 2002. The nostalgia factor seems thick with the NBA on NBC coming back, which can only mean good things for the next decade-plus of NBA coverage.
