Just three games were on Sunday’s NBA schedule as the league gears up for a full 15-game slate on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s Election Day where no games will be played.
Around the League
Cade Cunningham (8-for-13) led the Detroit Pistons, now 2-5 on the season, with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in a 106-92 road win at Barclays Center. Tobias Harris was also 8-for-13 and finished with 18 points. Jaden Ivey (15), Tim Hardaway Jr. (14), Jalen Duren (13 points, 17 rebounds) also scored in double figures as all
Piston starters scored at least 10 points. Malik Beasley hit four triples off the bench for 18 points.
The Nets (3-4) made just 9-of-31 shots from downtown, and were led by Cam Johnson’s 26 points (9-for-19, 3-for-12). Cam Thomas struggled, making just 6-of-17 shots and hitting on just one three-point attempt.
Jalen Johnson (29 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 12-for-20) was the high man for the Atlanta Hawks (3-4) in their 126-111 win at New Orleans. Trae Young shot the ball well (8-for-15, 5-for-10 from downtown) and put up 23 points and 12 assists. Former Pelicans players Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr. both enjoyed quality outings. Daniels scored 16 points on 7-for-10 and Nance Jr. put up 14 off the bench in 25 minutes. Rookie top overall pick Zaccharie Risacher (11 points) reached double figures for the third time this season.
The Pelicans (3-4) were led by Brandon Ingram’s 32 points while Jordan Hawkins added 19. The team was without Zion Williamson due to hamstring soreness and was without C.J. McCollum and Herb Jones once again, both of whom will be out of action for 2-4 weeks. The shorthanded Pelicans are already missing Dejounte Murray for 4-6 weeks and have yet to have the services of Trey Murphy this season, whose status should be updated this week as he recovers from a hamstring injury. The Pelicans at full strength are a dangerous team but right now look like a shell of themselves with the injuries.
The Dallas Mavericks improved to 4-2 with a comfortable 108-85 win over the Orlando Magic (3-4). Led by Luka Doncic’s 32 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists (11-for-22), they also received 18 points and 8 rebounds from Daniel Gafford in 20 minutes and 17 points from Kyrie Irving.
Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs combined to go just 10-for-28 for 23 points. Like the Pelicans, the Magic are shorthanded as they will be without star Paolo Banchero for an extended period and Wendell Carter Jr. as well, who played just nine minutes Sunday before exiting with a plantar fascia injury.
