Rest In Peace to Former ESPN Producer, Researcher Howie Schwab (1960-2024)

On Saturday, Dick Vitale announced that his close friend, former ESPN researcher and producer Howie Schwab, passed away. Schwab had been battling some health issues for some time, according to Vitale.

This is sad news for anyone that grew up a sports fan and stat aficionado. Stump the Schwab, a sports trivia show hosted by Stuart Scott, pitted regular everyday people against Schwab in a series of categories. One of which, for example, was called “Leading Off” where you had to name as many players that fit a certain category as possible. Schwab would win that category and name nearly all of them. The show ran from July 2004 to September 2006.

Schwab was born in Baldwin, NY and attended St. John’s University. He worked as a producer for ESPN.com as well as for the network’s studio programming. He was with ESPN from 1987-2013.

RIP, Howie.
