In a 12-game slate on Saturday, Victor Wembanyama had a career night defensively, the Orlando Magic completed a monster comeback against their in-state rival, and Jayson Tatum put together a big time triple-double as the Boston Celtics took care of the Chicago Bulls.
In San Antonio’s 114-94 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, Wembanyama put up 30 points with 7 rebounds (8-for-16, 4-for-8), and rejected a career-high 10 shots. Charles Bassey, in 18 minutes for the 15-13 Spurs, put up 16 and 12. Leading the Trail Blazers (9-19) was Canadian Shaedon Sharpe with 25 points on 11-for-16 (3-for-6 from deep).
The Magic were down 106-84 going into the 4th, but outscored the Heat 37-8 in the final 12 minutes. Cole Anthony was tremendous off the bench with 35 points (13-for-25), 9 assists, and 8 rebounds in 28 minutes to lead Orlando. Kentavius Caldwell-Pope was 5-for-10 and 12-for-12 from the charity stripe for 24 points, while Goga Bitadze was 8-for-8 for 18 points and 13 rebounds in complementary roles. Bam Adebayo’s 23 points and 6 rebounds (8-for-15) and Terry Rozier’s 23 (8-for-15) led the Heat while Tyler Herro scored 22 points on 7-for-17 with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The 13-13 Heat got to the line 15 times more than the Magic, making 33 of 42, while the Magic (18-12) connected on 24 of 27 attempts.
43 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists was Jayson Tatum’s stat line on 16-for-24 shooting and 9-of-15 from downtown as the 22-6 Celtics took care of the Chicago Bulls 123-98. Kristaps Porzingis was 8-for-15 with 22 points and 7 rebounds while Jaylen Brown had 19 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds on 9-for-20. Nikola Vucevic posted 19 points and 10 rebounds while Patrick Williams, Coby White, and Zach LaVine each scored 14 points for the 13-16 Bulls, who shot 14-of-41 from downtown to the Celtics’ 15-of-45.
